Taylor Guitars, headquartered in El Cajon, California, was founded in 1974 by Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug. The two first crossed paths while working at a San Diego guitar shop called the American Dream, which had a laid-back, hippie vibe. When the shop’s owner, Sam Radding, decided to sell, Bob and Kurt seized the opportunity and bought the business together. Despite being young—Bob was just 19 and Kurt was 21—their shared passion for guitar making and their determination to turn their dream into a sustainable business helped transform their small shop into one of the world’s leading manufacturers of premium acoustic guitars.

Today, Taylor Guitars employs over 1,200 people and produces hundreds of guitars daily at two manufacturing facilities: one in El Cajon, California, and the other in Tecate, Baja California, Mexico. (Taylor does not outsource guitar production to Asia.) The company has a strong retail presence, with its instruments available at hundreds of locations across North America and international distribution to over 60 countries, including a distribution center and factory service facility in the Netherlands.
