Some overdrives give you one good sound and expect you to build the rest of the rig around it. The Keeley Mk3 Driver takes a considerably more flexible approach. Developed in collaboration with Andy Timmons, this full range overdrive starts with a Keeley modified BD style circuit and expands on the idea with multiple clipping and tone voicings. The result is an overdrive that can cover everything from cleaner boost duties to smooth, harmonically rich drive and considerably more aggressive textures.

The familiar Tone, Drive and Level controls keep operation straightforward, while separate Tone and Drive voicing switches substantially expand what those three knobs can accomplish. The Tone voicing lets you trim low frequencies when you need additional clarity or bring them forward when you want more body and authority. That makes the Mk3 Driver particularly useful when moving between guitars, amps or different gain requirements without completely rebuilding your settings.

Silicon and Germanium Clipping Modes

The Drive voicing switch changes the character of the clipping itself. One setting uses asymmetrical silicon clipping for an articulate response, while the alternate mode uses dual germanium diodes for a smoother and more compressed feel. This is more than simply adding or subtracting gain. Changing the clipping structure alters the way the pedal responds under your fingers, giving the Mk3 Driver a surprisingly broad personality for such a straightforward pedal.

True Bypass and Buffered Bypass

Keeley also gives you a choice between true bypass and buffered bypass operation. Holding the footswitch for two seconds toggles between the two modes, making it considerably easier to integrate the Mk3 Driver into different pedalboard configurations. The pedal can operate from 9 to 18 volts, providing another useful option for players looking for increased dynamic range and headroom.
