The Gibson J-185 Century 12-Fret offers a distinctive take on the celebrated J-185 design as part of the Century Collection celebrating 100 years of Gibson flat top acoustics. Moving the neck joint to the 12th fret places the bridge closer to the widest portion of the lower bout, allowing the soundboard to move freely and helping give this jumbo an expressive, richly resonant character.

Sitka Spruce and Mahogany Tonewoods

A solid Sitka spruce top is paired with mahogany back and sides for a warm, articulate voice with excellent balance across the frequency range. The satin nitrocellulose lacquer finish complements the Ebony color with an understated appearance, while cream single ply binding, the early Gibson script logo, and oval teardrop pickguard give the instrument a vintage inspired aesthetic.

Comfortable 12 Fret Gibson Acoustic Design

The mahogany neck features a SlimTaper 12 Fret profile designed for a fast, comfortable feel. A compound dovetail neck joint at the 12th fret is secured with hot hide glue, reflecting traditional Gibson acoustic construction methods. Combined with the shorter scale and relocated bridge position, the design lends itself naturally to expressive fingerstyle playing while remaining equally satisfying for light to moderate flatpicking.

Rosewood Fingerboard and Premium Appointments

The bound rosewood fingerboard is appointed with mother of pearl dot inlays, while a rectangle rosewood bridge recalls the look of early Gibson flat tops. A bone nut and bone saddle contribute to note definition and sustain, and Golden Age strap tuners provide smooth, reliable tuning stability. Nickel hardware and TUSQ bridge pins complete the appointments.
