The Electro-Harmonix Oceans 11 packs an impressive amount of ambience into a compact stompbox. With 11 distinct reverb types ranging from familiar room filling sounds to much more atmospheric textures, it can handle everyday reverb duties while leaving plenty of room to wander into stranger territory.

11 Reverb Types

The Oceans 11 includes Hall, Spring, Plate, Reverse, Echo, Tremolo, Modulated, Dynamic, Auto Infinite, Shimmer and Polyphonic reverb types. That covers everything from rich hall ambience and warm plate sounds to octave shifted washes and pitch shifted polyphonic textures. The Mode button provides additional variations within the selected reverb type, making this pedal considerably deeper than its straightforward control layout might initially suggest.

Secondary Controls and Infinite Reverb

There is another layer hiding underneath the main controls. Secondary Knob Mode provides access to additional parameters for greater control over the individual effects. Most settings can also produce infinite reverb, allowing a sustained wash to continue while you play over it with a fresh reverb sound. An external momentary footswitch can also be connected to the Infinite jack for hands free control.

Reverb Tails and Buffered Bypass

An internal Tails switch determines what happens to the ambience when the effect is bypassed. The reverb can either decay naturally after bypass or stop immediately. The Oceans 11 uses buffered bypass and provides straightforward FX Level, Time and Tone controls alongside the Reverb Type selector and Mode button.
