The Holier Grail takes the familiar reverb concept and gives you considerably more room to get strange with it. It contains: Spring, Hall, Room and Flerb reverb types, with selectable Long and Short lengths providing eight different reverb presets. The Blend control handles the balance between the dry instrument and reverb signals, making it possible to dial in anything from a subtle wash behind your playing to much wetter ambient sounds.

Spring Hall Room and Flerb Reverb Sounds

Spring is a particular highlight for guitar, delivering the kind of character that makes the Holier Grail an appealing companion for an amplifier without onboard reverb. Hall moves into larger spaces, Room provides another useful flavor, and Flerb combines reverb with a flanged character for more unusual textures. The Long and Short Length switch further changes the apparent size and decay of each reverb type, giving this pedal plenty of territory to explore.

Gated Reverb and Reverse Gate Effects

Then there is the Golden Gate section, and this is where things get interesting. The gate can be switched off, applied only to the reverb, or placed after the Blend control to gate both the direct and reverb signals. A dedicated Gate Threshold control determines when the gate responds, while selectable Fast and Slow speeds change how abruptly it opens and closes. The Gate LED provides a visual indication of whether the gate is open or closed.

Reverse Gate and Swelling Reverb Effects

The Gate Reverse switch turns the usual behavior on its head. Instead of opening when the signal exceeds the threshold, the gate closes. This can produce delayed reverb tails and swelling effects as well as some decidedly unconventional responses. It takes more interaction than simply stomping on a conventional reverb pedal, but that is also part of the appeal. The Holier Grail gives players who enjoy experimenting with dynamics and texture considerably more to work with than a basic reverb box.

True Bypass Reverb Pedal with Reverb Only Output

The Holier Grail also provides separate Main Output and Reverb Only Output jacks. The Main Output carries the Blend control's mixture of dry and reverb signals while the effect is engaged, while the Reverb Only Output supplies the reverb generator's signal independently of the Blend and gate functions. When bypassed, the Main Output is connected directly to the input for true bypass operation. This pre owned example is unmodified and shows moderate cosmetic wear consistent with regular use.
