The EarthQuaker Devices Life Pedal V1: Heavy Distortion and Monophonic Octave Down

EarthQuaker Devices Sunn O))) Life Pedal V1

Developed in tribute to Sunn O))) and their 2019 album Life Metal, the EarthQuaker Devices Life Pedal V1 delivers the thick, saturated distortion and extended low end associated with the band's distinctive sound. Combining vintage Rat style distortion with a monophonic octave down effect, the Life Pedal offers a wide range of aggressive tones, from straightforward crunch to dense, layered textures.

Vintage Rat Style Distortion

The Life Pedal V1 features a distortion circuit based on the vintage Whiteface Proco Rat, offering a broad range of gain from moderate crunch to heavy saturation. Its aggressive character provides a solid foundation for thick rhythm sounds and sustained leads. The distortion circuit is equally suited to conventional high gain applications and more experimental approaches to guitar tone.

Monophonic Octave Down

The monophonic octave down circuit adds depth and low frequency content, producing the heavy, layered textures central to the Life Pedal's design. Combined with the Rat style distortion, the octave effect creates a fuller, more substantial sound particularly suited to drone, doom, and other styles that benefit from extended low end and dense distortion.

Distortion and Octave Tonal Versatility

The combination of distortion and octave down gives the Life Pedal V1 considerable flexibility. From aggressive rhythm tones to sustained, harmonically rich textures, the pedal provides a range of sounds for players interested in pushing beyond conventional distortion. Its rugged construction is designed to accommodate both live performance and studio use.
