PRE-OWNED 1964 Fender Deluxe AB763 Combo Amplifier

the 1964 Fender Deluxe Combo Amplifier – Vintage Tone With Modern Reliability

Vintage Fender Deluxe Amplifier

This 1964 Fender Deluxe remains one of the most sought-after tube amplifiers for electric guitars. Its all-tube design delivers the warm breakup and dynamic response players crave. The AB763 circuit black panel PRE-CBS Fender Deluxe (non-reverb) has that classic barreled midrange and sweet top end that defined rock and blues in the mid 1960s.

Amplifier Servicing and Reliability

Professionally serviced in-house at Five Star Guitars this amp received a new 1 A slow-blow fuse replacement and full inspection. All potentiometers were thoroughly cleaned and now operate smoothly with no crackle or pop. The power transformer was replaced with a 1965 with a thin resin coating inside the amp chassis while the output and choke transformers remain original to 1964.

Jensen C12Q Speaker Upgrade

The original Oxford 12K5 speaker has been replaced with a brand-new Jensen C12Q 12 inch speaker. This retains the desirable ceramic tone with strong breakup of this 35 watt 8 ohm speaker at higher volumes. All speaker mounting hardware has been checked and tightened for secure performance. Mix match of speaker nuts throughout are not original.

Tube Tremolo Amplifier Performance

Tube sockets cleaned and all brand new JJ Electronics tubes professionally biased for optimal tone and reliability. The tremolo circuit pulses strongly when engaged via the after-market single-button Fender latched vintage style footswitch with Hosa 1/4 inch to RCA adapter. The tremolo speed control functions smoothly up to around eight before plateauing as expected in a vintage Fender tremolo design.

1964 Fender Amp Condition

What appear to be the original Mallory electrolytic caps are in surprisingly like new looking condition with no signs of being replace. Cosmetic condition is good with typical age-related dings and light dirt consistent with a vintage amplifier. Era-correct “10” screw knobs are fitted though one was replaced with a modern witch-hat style. Two backplate screws have been swapped for black replacements. The original brown two-prong lamp cord was upgraded to a grounded three-prong IEC cable and the death cap and ground switch removed from circuit.
