TL;DR

Mesa sorts the tubes into these color pairs after testing. We get whatever colors they send us for what they have at the time of shipping. The color codes come in waves based on their stock. We do not reshoot tubes as they come in because when replacing mesa power tubes in a mesa amplifier it will not matter.Mesa uses color matching between batches of tested tubes, and all colors are within the "sweet spot" for the way they set the BIAS in their amps. It is recommended to replace them with Brand New, matched duets for balance between the push pull of that part of the circuit. If you have a 100- or 150-watt amp you do not need to worry about what your other duet color/s are as long as you have them matched to with their partner. There is a lot of misinformation out there confusing the Groove Tube number system and Mesa color codes.
