The 1957 Les Paul Goldtop is one of those guitars that needs little introduction. Gibson Custom recreates the formula here with a solid mahogany body, two piece plain maple top and that unmistakable Double Gold finish with dark back. The VOS nitrocellulose finish adds the lightly aged patina of an instrument that has already spent some quality time making music.

Gibson Custom Shop Vintage Construction

The details go deep. The maple top and Indian rosewood fingerboard are hide glue fitted, while the mahogany neck uses a substantial Chunky C profile. A 12 inch fingerboard radius and 22 Historic Gibson narrow tall frets deliver a familiar Les Paul playing platform. Aged cellulose nitrate trapezoid inlays, Royalite binding and a nylon nut complete the period focused package.

Custombucker Alnico III Humbuckers

A pair of unpotted Custombucker Alnico III humbuckers handles the electrical side of the equation. The traditional control layout provides independent volume and tone controls for the neck and bridge pickups along with a three way toggle selector. CTS 500K audio taper potentiometers and paper in oil capacitors round out an electronics package built around the classic dual humbucker Les Paul format.

Historic Gibson Hardware

The hardware follows the same vintage inspired approach with a No Wire ABR 1 bridge, lightweight aluminum Stop Bar and Kluson Single Line, Single Ring tuners. Butyrate Gold Top Hat knobs, an Amber Catalin switch tip and period inspired plastics carry the historic details throughout the instrument.
