This Five Star Select Taylor 314ce is a thoughtfully upgraded version of the beloved Grand Auditorium workhorse, available exclusively through our store. We’ve collaborated with Taylor to enhance this guitar with custom tone woods and refined aesthetic details that bring out the best in both tone and appearance. With a torrefied Sitka spruce top and walnut back and sides, this guitar delivers a mature, open sound right out of the case—pairing vintage warmth with modern clarity.

Torrefied Sitka Spruce Top for Vintage-Inspired Resonance

The torrefied Sitka spruce top is one of the most impactful upgrades in this build. By gently baking the wood in a controlled environment, the process gives the top a broken-in sound with quicker response, increased harmonic complexity, and added warmth. Whether you're strumming, flatpicking, or fingerpicking, this top reacts with a smooth, articulate voice that opens up even more over time.

Walnut Back and Sides for Balanced, Clear Projection

In place of the standard Sapele, this Five Star Select model features walnut back and sides, which provide a crisp, transparent tone with a hint of dryness that cuts nicely through a mix. Walnut's tonal character falls between rosewood and mahogany—bringing more midrange focus than rosewood, but a slightly tighter low end than mahogany. It’s a versatile tonewood that suits players looking for detail and balance across all registers.

Premium Aesthetic Details and Player-Friendly Appointments

To complement the upgraded tone woods, we selected smoked nickel hardware for a more understated, modern look. We also swapped the standard micarta nut for a bone nut to improve sustain and tonal integrity across all six strings. For a cleaner visual presentation, we left the pickguard off the body—though it’s included loose in the case and can be installed free of charge upon request.
