Benson Amps Germanium Fuzz Pedal - Studio Black: The Ultimate Fuzz Experience
The Basics
The Benson Amps Germanium Fuzz is a high-quality fuzz pedal designed to deliver unparalleled sound and performance. Utilizing two germanium 2N527 or 2N404 transistors, this pedal is meticulously graded for gain and leakage, ensuring the best possible sound. Designed around the classic 60s circular fuzz topology, it includes unique features aimed at solving common issues with germanium devices.
Automatic Thermal Bias Technology
The Germanium Fuzz pedal is the first to feature automatic thermal bias technology. This innovative circuit gently warms the transistors to a preset operating point using analog components, ensuring consistent sound regardless of external temperature. The LED indicator light helps monitor this process, turning orange when warming up and green when the correct bias and hFE are set. This feature allows the pedal to perform reliably in various conditions, from freezing to 100øF.
Input Impedance
This pedal retains the tight, sparkly clean tone when the guitar volume is rolled down, thanks to its low input impedance. To maintain compatibility with other pedals without compromising sound quality, it includes a class A buffer and a Jack Orman style passive pickup simulator circuit. An additional Impedance control simulates rolling down the guitar volume, providing even more tonal versatility.
Wide Gain Range
The Benson Amps Germanium Fuzz is versatile enough to be used as a clean boost, overdrive, or aggressive fuzz with octave overtones. It offers a range of tones suitable for 60s-70s classic rock and psychedelic rock, sounding more like an overdrive or distortion until the gain is turned all the way up and the impedance is turned down. The Gain and Impedance controls are highly interactive, allowing for a wide variety of tones.
