1968 Martin D-21 with Chipboard Case

Vintage Tone Revived: 1968 Martin D-21

Unleash the timeless sound of this 1968 Martin D-21, a revered classic that stands as a testament to Martin's legendary craftsmanship. Introduced in 1955, the D-21 combined the iconic aesthetics of the D-18 with the rich, resonant tones of rosewood found in the D-28. As one of Martin's late entries into the Dreadnought market, the D-21 quickly garnered acclaim for its exceptional playability and remarkable tonal depth.

Classic Design, Timeless Appeal

Crafted with Brazilian Rosewood back and sides and a Spruce top, the D-21 boasts a tonewood combination that epitomizes vintage warmth and resonance. Its mahogany neck, dovetail neck joint, and rosewood fingerboard ensure a smooth playing experience, while the original nitrocellulose finish adds a touch of vintage charm. Featuring a 16" radius and 20 frets adorned with MOP dot inlays, this instrument exudes classic elegance and uncompromising quality.

Exceptional Sound and Playability

The D-21's distinctive tone is characterized by its powerful projection, smoothness, and depth. With its wide and deep body, this dreadnought produces a tone of unparalleled richness, making it ideal for both studio recordings and live performances. The chrome Grover Rotomatic "milk bottle" tuning heads ensure reliable tuning stability, while the original Martin rosewood belly bridge enhances sustain and resonance, allowing players to express themselves with precision and clarity.

Vintage Charm, Modern Reliability

Despite its vintage roots, the 1968 Martin D-21 remains a timeless instrument cherished by musicians and collectors alike. While wear may be present due to its age, including pick wear around the pickguard and finish oxidation (likely from forearm sweat), this only adds to its character and authenticity. With its meticulous craftsmanship, iconic design, and legendary tone, the D-21 continues to captivate audiences and inspire musicians across generations.
