Gibson 1964 SG Standard Reissue With Maestro Vibrola PSL - Walnut NH VOS with Hard Shell Case
Angus Young's Iconic SG Recreated
Picture this: a gathering of die-hard guitar enthusiasts, the "brain trust" at Five Star Guitars, engaging in a spirited debate over which SG guitar boasts the ultimate cool factor. The discussion eventually narrows down to a single, iconic instrument—the 1970 (some say 1969-1971) SG Standard with Maestro Vibrola and a distinctive walnut finish. The brain trust unanimously agrees that this is, without a doubt, one of the coolest-looking SGs ever produced.
An Iconic Image in Rock 'n' Roll
The image of Angus Young wielding his original 1970 SG Standard is etched into the annals of rock 'n' roll history. It takes center stage on the cover of the legendary "High Voltage" album and graces countless photographs of Angus during the iconic Bon Scott era. It's an SG that not only delivered iconic sound but also left an indelible visual mark on rock music.
Capturing the Essence
If you've ever had the pleasure of playing a 1970 SG Standard, you're familiar with its narrow nut and the distinctive volute on the back of the neck. To pay homage to the legendary Angus Young SG, Five Star Guitars embarked on a close collaboration with the Gibson Custom Shop. Their mission was clear: recreate the essence of Angus Young's iconic SG Standard with Maestro Vibrola and a VOS walnut finish.
Attention to Detail
The journey to create this masterpiece led them to choose the '64 SG Standard as the base model for the build. Why? Because they favored the neck profile of the '64, which closely resembles a '59 Les Paul neck, over the slimmer '61 model. The attention to detail is meticulous: the stunning VOS walnut finish, the full batwing pickguard (seriously bespoke), witch hat knobs adorned with silver inserts, brass saddles replacing the original nylon ones, and Grover tuners. To top it all off, the unpotted Custombucker pickups ensure that this guitar delivers the goods expected of such a rare and beautiful addition to the Five Star Select collection, available exclusively at Five Star Guitars.
