The Direct control adjusts the level of your original unaffected signal, while the Octave control brings in an analog signal shifted one octave down. The Octatone control is an active sweepable low pass filter dedicated exclusively to that octave signal. Turn it one direction for a smoother, deeper sub bass character or the other for a more aggressive, synth like voice.
