1977 Rickenbacker 3001 Left-Handed – Jetglo with Hardshell Case

The 1977 Rickenbacker 3001 Left-Handed – A Rare Southpaw Classic with Powerful Low-End Authority

Exceptionally rare vintage left-handed Rickenbacker bass

Left-handed players know how elusive vintage Rickenbacker basses can be—especially when you're after something beyond the standard 4001 or 4003. The 3001 is already a lesser-seen entry in the Ric lineage, and this particular example from September 1977, finished in Jetglo, takes rarity to a new level. It’s a rock-solid workhorse that offers a no-frills design paired with exceptional tone and unmistakable ‘70s attitude. The finish is original and has aged gracefully, with tasteful cosmetic wear that suits its vintage status.

Original electronics with bold, punchy tone

What makes this 3001 sing is its lone high power pickup paired with simple, yet surprisingly versatile, volume, tone, and midrange controls. The original electronics are intact and untouched, including CTS pots that date to late 1976. The sound is full and commanding, with a forward midrange that thrives in rock, punk, or post-hardcore mixes. Whether you run it clean or push it through a saturated amp, the voicing here stays articulate while packing a heavy punch.

Maple and rosewood construction for classic sustain

With a solid maple body and a maple neck capped with a rosewood fingerboard, the 3001 delivers the snappy attack and long sustain that Rickenbacker instruments are known for. The bolt-on four-screw neck joint and C-shaped profile give it a sturdy, focused feel in the hands, while the 33 1/4" scale keeps the tension tight without sacrificing playability. The weight comes in at a solid 10.57 pounds—perfect for players who appreciate a bit of heft and presence in their tone.

Professionally set up and stage-ready

This bass has just received a full professional setup at Five Star Guitars, including a fresh set of D’Addario EXL170 nickel-wound long-scale strings. It plays cleanly up and down the neck and is dialed in for performance right out of the case. The original hardware is intact, including the strap buttons and tuning machines, and the finish, while worn in spots, retains its classic Jetglo vibe with scratches and edge wear that tell the story of a well-loved instrument.

Period-correct hardshell case included

The bass comes housed in what appears to be period correct black G&G-style hardshell case, featuring a blue plush interior, snap-button storage compartment, and leather-wrapped handle. There’s no branding or logos on the case, but the construction, interior, and light exterior wear all point to a period-correct fit. A factory polish cloth, are included inside.
