Featuring the gray panel, solid state circuitry, and silver toggle switch, this vintage tape echo captures the distinctive design of the era. Whether you're a vintage effects enthusiast, collector, or musician looking for a restoration project, this EP-3 offers an opportunity to own a piece of effects history.

Period Correct Components and Original Construction

This example appears to retain its original components, with CTS potentiometers bearing the late 1974 date code 1377423. The Maestro logo on the front panel is also correct for the period, further supporting the unit's vintage authenticity. The internal capacitors appear pristine, and the unit shows no obvious evidence of component replacement based on the available inspection.

Vintage Echoplex Condition and Mechanical Details

This EP-3 arrived in good overall condition. The included tape is twisted internally and does not feed. Additionally, one turret board mounting lug has snapped, although the affected lug does not serve as an electrical connection and is hovering clear of other components under wire tentions. The included plunger style footswitch and tension arm both appear to be original to the unit.

Operational Condition and Testing Limitations

The tape is currently twisted, preventing a complete functional test of the echo system. The motor turns, and the tape heads are believed to be functioning, although their operation has not been verified. Due to these limitations, this unit is being offered strictly as is, with no guarantee of full functionality. Service, adjustment, or repair may be necessary before regular use.

A Collectible Vintage Maestro Echoplex

For the player or collector who appreciates vintage analog effects, this 1974 Maestro EP-3 offers an intriguing combination of period correct details and apparent originality. Its solid state design, classic gray panel, and surviving original components make it a compelling candidate for restoration or inclusion in a vintage effects collection. This is thee legendary model that many pedal companies have emulated the pre-amp tone of.

Specifications

Brand: Maestro

Model: EP-3 Echoplex

Year: 1974

Effect Type: Tape Echo

Circuit Design: Solid State

Panel: Gray

Switch: Silver Toggle

Potentiometers: CTS, Date Code 1377423

Front Logo: Period Correct Maestro Logo

Components: Appear Original

Capacitors: Visually Pristine

Power Cord: Hardwired

Condition: Good, As Is

Motor: Turns strong

Tape Heads: Believed Functional but unable to test fully

Tape Condition: Twisted and non funtioning

Tension Arm: Detached, Included, Appears Original

Turret Board: Broken Mounting Lug, No Electrical Connection at Affected Lug and the wires are tentioned enough to keep it isolated.

Testing Status: Partially Tested, Motor turns.
